The Blue Badge

Awarded by the The Institute of Tourist Guiding, the Blue Badge is the highest guiding qualification in Britain. The training is detailed and comprehensive, the examinations rigorous and registration an achievement.  The Blue Badge is recognised internationally as the qualification of excellence. It is awarded only following extensive training and in depth examination.

Blue Badge Guides are represented by The Guild of Registered Tourist Guides. The Guild is the national professional association for Blue Badge Tourist Guides working throughout the British Isles, including the Isle of Man and Jersey. With around 700 full members and a network of regional and local associations with nearly 1,000 members holding group membership, the Guild represents around 1,700 guides.

Since its foundation in 1950, the Guild has been dedicated to raising and maintaining the highest professional standards in guiding. Guild members are covered under public liability insurance.

The Guild is a member of the European Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (FEG), which acts to bring together and strengthen professional tourist guiding links and standards across Europe, and the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA), the international forum for tourist guides.
